New Campus in 2024

We are delighted to share that Hawthorn-Melbourne will start 2024 in a new campus in the Melbourne CBD.

Located at 333 Exhibition Street, our new campus will occupy 2-levels of a multi-story building that is well serviced by public transport with train, tram and bus stops all within minutes of our doorstep. Our new home will offer students a new level of convenience in a purpose-designed centre.

With the picturesque Carlton Gardens just across the road, the new campus location offers a great balance of city convenience and natural green spaces while being an easy walk to the University of Melbourne Parkville campus.

Frequently Asked Questions

The new campus is at 333 Exhibition Street, Melbourne

The move will take place during the Christmas/New Year break, ready for classes to resume on 2 January 2024.

For the past 37 years, 442 Auburn Road has been home to Hawthorn-Melbourne. While this building has served us well over the years, it has become a bit dated as time has passed. In 2022, the University of Melbourne announced the sale of the building for commercial redevelopment, with construction expected to start in 2025.

We also understand that many of our students live and work closer to the city and the University of Melbourne Parkville campus, so a city location will be easier for commuting.

Not yet. The campus is currently being renovated. Everything will be new when we move in, so the renovations will take some time to complete.

The final class at 442 Auburn Road will be held on the 15 December. Following the Christmas/New Year break, all classes will be at the new city campus.

Being located in the city makes the new campus very easy to reach by public transport.

It is a short walk from either Parliament or Melbourne Central train Stations.
The La Trobe Street trams stop right outside our building (tram stop #8) and in the free tram zone!

Check the PTV Journey Planner to find the best way to reach the campus from your home.

You will have access to:

  • modern classrooms with interactive white boards, projectors and charging walls for all your devices
  • Wi-Fi throughout
  • a dedicated Study Hub (library space) with computers and print facilities
  • student kitchen, containing microwave ovens, vending machines, filtered water and hot water outlets.
  • a large student lounge/dining area
  • games room with table tennis and other games available
  • a central reception desk where you can ask questions and seek advice
  • stage area for special events
  • male and female prayer rooms
  • first aid facilities

Your class may change because of your progress and enrolment. This is not connected to the change of location though.

All the staff currently at Hawthorn-Melbourne are expected to transfer to the new campus.

In addition, there will be some new staff coming on board to support you in your learning and life in Melbourne.

There is no change to the course offerings.

Everything in the city campus will be new and purpose-built for our students. Currently there are builders renovating the new campus. For safety reasons, we cannot visit just yet.

As soon as the renovations are complete, you will be invited to come and see it. Until then, you can go and check out the location, but you will not be able to enter.

There are many student accommodation options in and around the city. These are independently run and can vary with the living options they provide. We would always recommend you visit the premises to check the room before committing or signing a lease. For more information, you are welcome to chat to the Student Services team.

There are many cafes and restaurants surrounding the campus where you can purchase your morning coffee or lunch.

For those who bring their lunch to school, there is a student kitchen available with microwaves, vending machines, and hot water facilities, as well as a large dining room.

There is also an IGA supermarket conveniently located on the ground floor of our new building.
